Support the fight of people in Kurdistan against PUK and KDP aggression

 posted: 08 May 2006

Like every other reactionary and outdated rule, the Kurdish nationalist parties; Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) resort to oppression as the only way to silence the masses of people.

Recently, Hawiz Hawizi, a freelance journalist was arrested for second time in the town of Koya and brutally tortured by the PUK thugs for criticizing few officials in this party’s authority.

On May2, 2006 the current and the former editors of the Hawlati weekly; Mr. Asos Hardi and Twana Othman were sentenced in the criminal court in the city of Suleimanyia to 6 months in prison and 75000 Dinars in fine.

According to a report by Hawlati weekly, during last few weeks Muhammad Barzi, an engineer in the general directorate of the private projects in Suleimanyia province and Najat Ahmad a student in Salahdeen University in Arbil were interrogated and sentenced by the authority for publishing critical article in the weekly.

These are some new incidents, which show how the journalists and writers in Kurdistan are gagged. They are few examples, which tell about the oppressive climate imposed on Kurdistan. In sharp contrast to the allegations of the warmongering American and British governments, Kurdistan not just is not a model for a free society but also there are constant blatant violations of basic human rights. The oppression perpetrated in this region shows another lie of the many lies of Bush, Blair and their apologists. It is another blot in the record of America and its allies of fighting for “democracy” that is full of hypocrisy.

Like any other society plagues by oppressive rule, freedom and basic human rights in Kurdistan ruled by KDP and PUK need hard struggle. To achieve their freedom and rights, the freedom loving People of Kurdistan rely on their struggle and the support of progressive and left individuals and organizations worldwide rather than Bush, Blair and their likes who have always supported oppressive regimes and forces.

Socialist International and its parties in Europe which pose as democratic forces have to answer the question of people in Kurdistan: How reactionary and tribal thugs and groups like PUK and KDP are accepted as observers in their organization?

We in the Abroad Organization of the Worker-communist Party of Iraq call in all freedom-loving people and human right organizations to stand up to this brutal blatant oppression. We call on Kurdish-speaking progressive people living abroad to come to the fore to curb this oppression. We also vow to the people of Kurdistan that we will do all we can to expose the oppressive acts of the PUK and KDP. We will not hesitate in the fight to curb their oppression. We will use all political means to exert pressure on them to respect the freedom and rights of the masses of people in this region. The freedom-loving and discontent masses of Kurdistan are not alone in the fight against this reactionary authority. The Worker-communist Party of Iraq stands in the forefront of this fight.
