May 1st is the solidarity day of the working class. It is the day the workers worldwide express their protest against the capitalist system and call for ending the world and the system of oppression, hunger, poverty, coercion and exploitation.

The workers in Iraq receive May Day this year while living amid the dark scenario of the war, occupation and sectarian fighting, which have destroyed the pillars of civil society, pushed it decades back and destroyed any possibility for the masses to live a secure and normal life.

Amid this dark scenario, the USA administration pursuing its reactionary gaols and interests and under the name of liberating the Iraqi masses and building democracy has imposed an unjust and bloody war and occupation on these masses. The USA and its warmongering policies have divided the society along false sectarian and ethnocentric identities and lines and deprived the society of its human identity and the people of their right to equal citizenship. On the other hand the war and the occupation have prepared the ground for the Islamic gangs and militias in Iraq to push forward their outdated and reactionary policies and schemes.

On May Day this year the workers of Iraq are passing through the harshest historical period ever. Not only the Iraqi workers’ wages, working hours, social security, basic rights and gains won through long years of hard struggle are under attack but their physical existence as well is in danger. The occupation, sectarian war and pillaging the country’s wealth have turned the lives of workers in Iraq to a real hell. The Iraqi working class is engaged in a great struggle against the occupation, its puppet government and gangs and militias of all sections of political Islam. They and their progressive organizations are in striving to end the occupation, curb these brutal militias and rebuild the civil society.

To liberate themselves of these conditions, end the war and occupation, rebuild the civil society and establish a secular non-ethnocentric government, the Iraqi workers and masses need the support of workers and libertarian people worldwide.

Therefore the workers, and labour organizations across the world and in particular in the USA, Britain and other advanced countries should be in the forefront of the world’s forces seeking to end the plight of the Iraqi workers and masses. Without doubt, the victory of the Iraqi workers will be a victory for the front of workers, libertarian and humanist people worldwide against the capitalist system and its savage policies.

Let’s make May 1 this year a day to step up the support of the world’s workers and libertarian people to the workers and progressive masses of Iraq. The Iraqi workers and their organizations are in urgent need to an active role and intervention by the world’s civilized humanity in their support in this struggle. Support the heroic and just struggle of the Iraqi workers and masses in all possible ways.

Long live May1!

Long live workers’ internationalism!

Long live socialism!
