May 1st is the day the working class internationally protests against capitalism and its reactionary system. It is the day workers reclaim their will and their human nature. It is the day workers build their self -confidence and conviction in the revolutionary movement to overthrow the capitalist system to build a free social and political system that abolishes classes and eliminates oppression and discrimination. On May, 1stthe working class announces to the world that it is a class, which aspires to build a different world where humanity enjoys freedom social equality.

Despite the colossal advancements reached, in this inverted world, in all areas of science, technology and accumulation of enormous wealth a vast amount of the world’s population is still deprived of basic economic, social and political rights. On the one hand, more than a billion human beings live under the poverty line while a similar number are unemployed, this is in addition to homelessness and lack of economic security, deprivation of basic freedoms and rights, wars, famines and many more tragedies. On the other hand, a small minority, less than two thousand capitalists who run the world economy swim in sea of wealth and luxury. The message of May 1st is to end this unfair polarization and to build a world based on equality and freedom.

In Iraq under the hegemony of capital and fighting reactionary bourgeois movements, whose main task is to ensure that the capitalist system continues its ominous life and under American occupation, the society has literally been turned to a hell. Killings, assassinations, lack of security, law and order has been an integral part of the daily life of the citizens for the past seven years. The policy of the bourgeois currents that regardless of their political tendency and power toward the working class, they have been wedging divisions and discord by dividing the society on basis of sectarian and ethnic identities on the one hand and depriving workers of political freedom, in particular the freedom to strike and form their own organizations in addition to imposing trivial wages and destitution on them and increasing the number of persons unemployed.

After the election results were revealed, they disregard their own laws, constitution and election results by striking deals and compromises among the winning political blocs. By using the term a “shared government”, they are merely referring to sharing the goal of prolonging the age of their notorious rule and facing any labour or liberation demand with violence. The aim of their goals is to create a cheap, silent, submissive and oppressed labour to lure the international capitalists to invest in Iraq and suck the blood of workers and toilers.

Under the current circumstances, the labor movement and its leaders are required to unit and organize their ranks against the capital and bourgeois movements, and their rule, policies, laws and militias. This is a precondition to topple the rotten and reactionary bourgeois system. It is a precondition to emerge as a capable political power that carries the banner of change to all these tragic conditions and leads the society to freedom, equality and workers’ rule.

May 1st is a day necessary for the working class to elevate its preparedness in order to emerge as a distant class force unlike any bourgeois movement, away from ethnic and sectarian identities that attempt to impose on workers and assumes class and human identities by separating its ranks from all bourgeois movements in power and opposition. On the other hand, the working class should base its struggle and perspective on the socialist outlook to improve its living conditions starting from wage level to freedom of strike, organization, demonstration and other political demands.

International Workers Day is the day workers raised their class and reform banner, the day they turned their movement to a capable force in the forefront of society. It is the day the working class showed that it is the force, which can liberate itself and rescue society from all the current appalling conditions. The worker-communist Party of Iraq is a part of this great social movement. It is a vanguard part with a communist and worker perspective for overthrowing the capitalist system and building a socialist society that is free of all forms of suppression, oppression and discrimination. May 1st, is the day that workers in Iraq joined the Worker-communist Party of Iraq.

Long live May 1st

Long live workers’ internationalism and solidarity

Long live freedom and equality
