On 25th September
2011 Palestinian
president, Mr Mahmoud Abbas, requested that
Palestinians be granted full membership to
the united nation through a speech to the UN
General Assembly. He formally handed the
application to Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the
Secretary General of the United Nations. The
Palestinian people have an undeniable right
to an independent and viable state. No
conditions dictated by the Israeli
occupation, the so-called international
community, quartet on the Middle
East or the
Security Council are acceptable. The masses
in Palestine have suffered oppression and
discrimination for six decades because of
the interests of the regional and world
powers.
Today the voices of the American and
European governments rose against this
request. These governments continue to make
noise about democracy and human rights; this
is despite the fact that they do not allow
Palestinians the right to an independent and
viable state. They are similar to Israeli
fascism, which due to the political
equations of the Cold War era were destined
to be the main power in the region. That era
has passed for good. Barak Obama, a
democratic president who promised to solve
the Palestinian question in one-year,
supports all the oppressive practices and
actions committed by Israelalong
its entire history.
Those who want to separate themselves from
the US and its president to achieve a strong
footling in the region, like Nicolas Sarkozy
of France,
give up their principles of democracy and
human rights when it comes to Palestinians
and propose a non-member observer state.
American and Western democracy and human
rights are designed according to the sphere
of influence of capital. Their standard is
the national interest of capital, especially
in current times where the world is again
divided amongst major powers.
They support the armed movements in Libya,
to overthrow the capitalist dictatorship of
Kaddafi. The nature of these movements and
whether they are terrorists or oppressors is
not the main issue. Their human rights
consist of the right to accumulate and
plunder wealth, provide suitable conditions
for investments according to the free market
economy and create privatization of the
entire economy under the justification of
facilitating the development of
infrastructure in different nations. They
aim at undermining the influence of China and Russia in
Libya and Syria through
overthrowing these regimes but when it comes
to Yemen,
which lies under their own sphere of
influence, they have a different policy.
Thus, their claims in democracy and human
rights are hollow claims. The claims of
these forces and their bodies, like the UN
and the Security Council, on human rights
and fighting terrorism are historical lies
and should go to where they belong - the
dustbin of the history. Nobody should be
deceived by these claims except for those
mercenary journalists who gain livelihood
through defending these lies.
We, in the Worker-communist Party of Iraq,
strongly support establishing the
independent Palestinian state and we support
Mr Mahmoud Abbas’s pursuit of this goal.
Establishing an independent Palestinian
state will put an end to part of the tragic
conditions, which prevail in the Middle East
and Arab World and will end a conflict which
has been ongoing on for six decades. This is
the conflict in which most of the movements
and governments of Arab nationalism colluded
with Israel and America in order to remain
in power. They submitted the masses through
false claims about the Palestine question.
Ending this conflict will be the first step
in clarifying the class view of workers in
the Arab World against the ruling bourgeois
nationalist movements and Islamic movements,
which use the Israeli occupation as an
excuse to oppress the masses in their
countries and kill their aspirations. It
will be the beginning of restraining these
movements, undermining their ideas,
authority and capability.
