As previously announced, the Oil sector in
Rumeila field closed the gates of all
production, injection, compression and
isolation stations in face of the engineers
and experts of BP (British Petroleum) to
prevent them from entering until the company
meets the demands of the workers.
On 15th September
2011, the Iraqi administration sought
assistance from the security committee in
order to summon the manager of shifts A and
B of these stations. Attempts were made to
exert pressure and terrorize by threatening
to put them on trial on terrorism charges if
they did not back down from blocking the
experts of the BP from entering. The workers
in these stations showed unity and firmness
and stressed that they would not back down
unless their demands were met.
We, in the Committee in Defense of the
rights of the Workers of oil sector in Iraq,
make public through this announcement what
our workers are subjected to. We warn the
Iraqi administration against continuing with
this approach and we hold them responsible
for any consequences. We call on our fellow
workers in labour organizations worldwide to
condemn these oppressive measures inherited
from the former dictator regime.
Please distribute widely.
